AMORGOS, October 20, 2026 – From November 12 to 17, 2026, the island of Amorgos will host the 17th International Amorgos Tourism Film Festival, focusing on island identity and embracing the theme “Place as Experience and Creation.”
Co-organized by the Amorgos Women’s Cultural Association, the South Aegean Region, and the Municipality of Amorgos, the Festival has become a distinguished international institution and an official member of CIFFT (the International Committee of Tourism Film Festivals). This year’s program features more than 100 selected films from over 35 countries across five continents, highlighting the connection between cinema, tourism, culture, and sustainability.
The competition program includes six categories: films promoting cities, geographical regions, and countries; tourism products and services; and documentaries and independent travel videos. Entries include productions and campaigns by prominent tourism organizations, such as the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), the tourism boards of Switzerland, Catalonia, and Portugal, as well as Go Türkiye. The selection also features productions associated with international platforms such as Netflix.
The Festival’s Art Director, Christiana Markou, emphasizes the importance of island identity as a source of inspiration and creativity. Meanwhile, Irene Giannakopoulou, President of the Festival, and Eleni Kountouroupi, President of the Association, highlight its role as a cultural bridge that brings people and nations together, promotes Amorgos internationally, and fosters meaningful connections between the global film community and the local society.
Alongside the Festival, the 9th Film Academy will take place, offering hands-on workshops and educational activities for students from Amorgos schools. The program will also include the 23rd YPERIA Convention on Culture and Tourism.
The Festival warmly invites filmmakers, tourism professionals, and culture enthusiasts to participate in this international gathering, which showcases Amorgos as a destination for cinematic inspiration, cultural exchange, and authentic experiences.
