The Captain elected as the World’s Best Tourism Video by the “people’s choice”

The Spanish video “The Captain”, produced by Innova Films for the Patronato Municipal De Turismo De Conil (Spain), was voted by the international public as the World’s Best Tourism Video - CIFFT “People's Choice Award.

From 1st to 25th October, the public worldwide were invited to travel through tourism videos and vote for their favourite. The CIFFT “People's Choice Award” is an initiative of CIFFT - The International Committee of Tourism Film Festivals.

In this third edition, 31 videos from 16 countries - Austria (4), Bosnia and Herzegovina (1), Chile (1), Croatia(2), Denmark (1), France (1), Germany (1), Japan (2), Lithuania (1), Myanmar (1), Norway (1), Portugal (6), Serbia (1), Slovenia (1), South Africa (1), and Spain (6) -, reached 81093 votes from 139 countries.

The video from Conil de la Frontera achieved 18437 votes from 54 countries, followed by another Spanish Video “Toledo Afonso X” with 14847 votes.

Through beautiful and emotional images, “The Captain” presents the Almadraba, ancient art of bluefin tuna fishing, which currently survives in very few places. Among them, Conil de la Frontera, a fishing village in Spain. The video shows the origin of the town, its culture, and its form of social organization.  With “The Captain”, the public can see that bluefin tuna is not just an admired gastronomic product, it is culture, struggle, work, and heritage.

Nowadays, video is the most important tool to promote tourism. Achieving recognition from the public and from experts in tourism, marketing, and audiovisual, in today's times leverage the image of the tourist destination and reinforce the pride of the local population.

At the beginning of the year, “The Captain” was awarded as The Best Film Promoting a Spanish City Fitur 2020, a competition integrated on the event Landing - New Trends on Tourism Communication, and that is organized by the Tourism Board of Madrid City Hall jointly with CIFFT and Terres Travel & Landscape Communication, during the FITUR days.

This achievement encouraged the municipality to join the exclusive initiative Grand Prix CIFFT Circuit, the biggest competition in the Travel Video Marketing Industry, that brings together the world’s best tourism film festivals. Throughout the year, “The Captain”, also received two important international awards, as the 2nd prize at Golden City Gate during ITB (Berlin, Germany), and the Best Cultural Destination Video at Terres Travel Festival (Tortosa, Spain).

The video is still waiting for the results of the Amorgos Tourism Film Festival (Greece) and Cannes Corporate TV & Media Awards (France).

“CIFFT People’s Choice Award is a great example of how tourism destinations can create connections with the audience through video. Is important for us to highlight the level of excellence of all the audiovisual productions that participated in the competition. This is the standard of what we hope to achieve in CIFFT”, said Alexander V. Kammel, Director of CIFFT.
